A Home with History: Circa 1800s Charm in Valle Crucis

Welcome to Valle Crucis—pronounced valley kru-sis—a peaceful, rural community first settled more than 200 years ago. Nestled in the heart of this storied landscape, our historic cottage is a time-honored gem from the late 1800s. County records list its construction as 1889, but some local historians suggest it may have been built even earlier, possibly in the 1860s. Either way, it’s likely one of the oldest stick-built homes in Valle Crucis, and it carries the charm and character that only a home with such a rich past can offer.

The previous owner lovingly transformed the interior, blending rustic charm with a warm, cabin-like atmosphere. You’ll notice touches of history throughout, including sections of the original bedroom walls that have been thoughtfully preserved.

Head upstairs to the attic area, a unique and cozy retreat that serves as the primary bedroom. With just under seven feet of headroom at its peak, it’s a snug space where taller guests may need to mind their height. The staircase adds its own bit of charm—slightly wonky, with the second step from the top just a touch higher than the rest—so tread carefully as you make your way up and down.

To enhance your comfort, we’ve made a few modern updates: the home has been rewired, a new water heater installed, and a UV light added to the whole-house water filtration system. These improvements ensure the cottage remains as welcoming as it is historic.

Our cottage isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an invitation to step back in time and experience the rich tapestry of Valle Crucis. Every creak in the floorboards, every charming quirk, tells a story. We hope you’ll embrace them all and create your own memories in this special place where the whispers of the past and the comforts of today meet in perfect harmony.
